Looking for family-friendly entertainment this holiday season? There is definitely no shortage of shows to see in Kansas City, so we’ve narrowed it down to our top four suggestions that are sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. Grab a friend, grab a loved one, or just grab a passer-by, and go out and support your local theater scene. You won’t be disappointed!

Kansas City Ballet’s THE NUTCRACKER.
With this newly reimagined version putting children at the forefront, THE NUTCRACKER has something for young and old. Hailed as “breathtaking” by our Abigail Trabue, this is one family tradition worth putting on your Christmas to-do list. Now playing through December 24th.

2. The Coterie’s RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: THE MUSICAL
Coterie’s holiday classic returns this year to Crown Center after a highly successful run last year. Featuring the story of everyone’s favorite red-nosed reindeer and featuring music from the much-loved holiday cartoon, RUDOLPH is sure to evoke nostalgic memories for the adults and laughter and fun for the kids. Now playing through December 31st.

3. The Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL.
A true holiday classic and a PerformInk critic’s pick, KC Rep’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL is now in its 36th season and filled with true Christmas spirit that will bring a tear to your eye and fill your heart with cheer. Now playing through December 24th at the Spencer Theatre on the UMKC campus.
4. Musical Theatre Heritage’s A SPECTACULAR CHRISTMAS SHOW:
Featuring holiday tunes taken from musical theater and the traditional Christmas songbook, A SPECTACULAR CHRISTMAS SHOW promises an evening of upbeat, fun entertainment, featuring a large cast of Kansas City actors. With one free child’s ticket (7-17) per paying adult, this is one evening of theater that is heavy on cheer and light on the pocketbook. Runs December 9th – Dec 23rd.
