Music Theatre Kansas City has announced the cast and partial creative team their senior production of Jeff Lynne and John Farrar’s XANADU based on Universal Pictures cult classic movie of the same title starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Showcasing graduating seniors from the Kansas City area, and directed by Executive Director Carey Danielson, XANADU features Maddie Robert (Kira), Brett Rawlings (Sonny), Jackson Dorris (Danny), Bailey Cockerham (Melpomene), Quinn Cole (Callie), Abby Lacy (Euterpe), Ariel Glorsky (Erato),  Michael Lacy (Thalia), Jeremy Jacobs (Terpsichore), Charlie Meachum (Zeus), Faith Knapp (Aphrodite), Sarah Ault (Thetis), Izze Loos (Hera), Aidan Sarmiento (Centaur), and Zack Russell (Hermes).

The creative team includes music direction by Julie Danielson, MTKC’s artistic director and resident music director, and choreography by Taylor Avazpour, MTKC’s assistant director.

According to the press release, Tony Award-nominated XANADU is a hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you. XANADU follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California. in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it’s 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds.

XANADU runs Saturday, June 3rd at 7:30 pm and Sunday, June 4th at 2:30 pm at Avila University’s Goppert Theatre (11901 Wornall Road Kansas City, MO 64145). Advanced tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students, and $10 for children ages 10 and under. Tickets at the door will be $20 for adults, $15 for students, and $10 for children ages 10 and under.
