KC MeltingPot Theatre continues its season of “resistance” with Dominque Morisseau’s SUNSET BABY.
Directed by Associate Artistic Director Nicole Hodges Persley, the production features Aishah Ogbeh as Nina, Lewis Morrow as Damon and Harvey Williams as Kenyatta.
From the press release: Nina is a beautiful, smart and ambitious hustler who is part of a “Bonnie and Clyde” New York hustle ring with her boyfriend Damon, an organic intellectual who wants more than a gangster life. Nina’s parents, Ashanti and Kenyatta, were at the forefront of the black liberation movement. When her estranged father returns from prison and wants to reconcile with Nina after her mother dies a tragic death due to depression and drugs, Nina learns about parts of herself that she has never known. Faced with new stories of her past that complicate her present, Nina must define her own revolutionary acts that will set her on a path to freedom from her lifestyle. From one of the most exciting playwrights in the American theatre, Detroit native Dominique Morrisseau, this dynamic new play about fathers and daughters takes a witty, insightful and raw look at the politics of freedom.
SUNSET BABY runs December 1st – December 16th at Just Off Broadway Theatre, 3051 Central in Penn Valley Park in Kansas City, MO. For more information visit kcmeltingpot.com.
