Starlight Theatre has announced the cast for their self-produced mounting of HAIRSPRAY, running July 27 – August 2.
Two-time Tony Award nominee Brad Oscar stars in the iconic role of Edna, Tracy Turnblad’s mother. Oscar’s Broadway credits include THE PRODUCERS (Franz Liebkind/Max Bialystock), THE ADDAMS FAMILY (Uncle Fester), BIG FISH (Amos Calloway) and most recently, SOMETHING ROTTEN!, for which he originated the role of Nostradamus.
Kansas City local Jerry Jay Cranford directs, backed up by a cast featuring a number of performers with Kansas City roots. Jessica Alcorn portrays the central role of Tracy Turnblad. Alcorn trained at Miller Marley School of Dance and MTKC and has performed with many companies throughout the metro area. Other performers with Kansas City ties in the cast are Cathy Barnett (Velma Von Tussle), Don Denton (Corny Collins), Eric Geil (Link Larkin), Katie Karel (Penny Pingleton), TJ Lancaster (Male Authority Figure), Erin Riley (Amber Von Tussle), Bruce Roach (Wilber Turnblad), Chioma Anyanwu (Ensemble, Dynamite), Justin Armer (Ensemble, Council Member), Marty Craft (Ensemble, Council Member), Carter Ellis (Ensemble, Council Member), Gabbie Fried (Ensemble, Council Member), Courtney Germany (Ensemble, Dance Captain), Janae Hammond (Ensemble), Kayli Jamison (Ensemble, Council Member), and Donovan Woods (Ensemble).
The ensemble will also feature eight high school performers whose schools participate in Starlight’s Blue Star Awards program: Janie Carr (Shawnee Mission East), Joey Ferguson (Lee’s Summit), Katie Hulla (Saint Thomas Aquinas), Holly Jackson (Shawnee Mission West), Amari Lewis (Sumner Academy of Fine Arts and Sciences), Katie Venteicher (Saint Thomas Aquinas), Megan Walstrom (Shawnee Mission East) and Savanna Worthington (Shawnee Mission East).
