The MTH Theater has announced the cast and design team for its upcoming production of Lerner & Loewe’s MY FAIR LADY.
Directed by Heidi Van, the production will feature Allison Jones as Eliza Doolittle, Bruce Roach, as Henry Higgins, with Robert Gibby Brand, Sarah Belhouari, Elizabeth Birger, Connor Branson, Martin Buchanan, Darrington Clark, Brock Hatton, Lanette King, Marilyn Lynch, Keenan Ramos, and Margaret Shelby.
The creative team includes scenic design by Mark Exline, lighting design by Nicole Jaja, sound design by John Hileman, costume design by Shannon Smith, and properties design by Beth Benedict Borders.
“Right now is the perfect time to re-examine MY FAIR LADY,” comments Van. Rather than playing the usual perspective of Henry Higgins transforming the life of Eliza, I’m putting Eliza in the driver’s seat. This MY FAIR LADY illustrates that class and gender don’t matter – that changing one’s station in life is possible. Eliza decides, Eliza trains, Eliza executes, Eliza rises.”
Based on George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion,” MY FAIR LADY centers around Eliza Doolittle, a young flower seller with an unmistakable Cockney accent which keeps her in the lower rungs of Edwardian society. When Professor Henry Higgins tries to teach her how to speak like a proper lady, an unlikely friendship begins. The original Broadway production featured Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews and set a record for the longest run of any show on Broadway at that time.
MY FAIR LADY plays The MTH Theater at Crown Center September 13-30. Tickets are available by calling the MTH Box Office at 816.221.6987 or by visiting www.mthkc.com.
