KC Melting Pot Theatre has announced the cast and design team for ON SHOULDERS NOW, written by Artistic Director Harvey Williams and directed by Associate Artistic Director Dr. Nicole Hodges Persley.
Meant to inspire this Christmas season, and provide a twist to holiday traditions, ON SHOULDERS NOW will feature Priest Hughes (Eddie), Desmond Jones (Vernon), Cydia White (Noi), Elizabeth A. Hillman (Lacy), Jabrelle Herbin (Shanel), Regina Sanchez (Carmen), and John Van Winkle (Levon).
The production team includes Theresa Kelly (lighting designer), Timmia Hearn (stage manager), Nick Hazel (assistant stage manager), Dishaun Phillips (sound & board operator), Melonnie Walker (dramaturg), Marica Davis (costumer), Robert Crone (set design & co-Set build), and Danny Kapitke (co-set build).
From the press release: “On Shoulders Now is a powerful holiday family story about one man’s memory of life and resilience from beyond the grave. Vernon is a homeless man from Kansas City who saw the good and bad in his community and still loved it, even though community members never saw him as anything more than a homeless man without a job. After his recent passing, Vernon haunts the present, unable to rest in peace until he shares his fondest reflection on a Christmas past that reveals the true meanings of the season: love, friendship, and family. Flashing back to the undocumented, homeless and victims of the street in our community, Vernon asks how can Christmas be a season of caring, sharing and holiday cheer when some citizens remain as invisible as ghosts.”
ON SHOULDERS NOW runs November 30 – December 15 at Just Off Broadway Theatre, 3051 Central in Penn Valley Park, Kansas City MO. 64108. For more information visit kcmeltingpot.com.
