Opera180, and Executive Director Nate Wheatley have announced Kansas City native Dr. Elizabeth Birger will assume the role of Artistic Director effective immediately.

“This is an exciting time for Opera180 as we welcome such a talented, energetic, and bright member to our team,” comments Wheatley. “As
we sought out an Artistic Director for the company, Elizabeth quickly emerged as he obvious choice. Elizabeth’s work is diverse stretching from vocal performance to coaching and instrumental performance. Elizabeth is an incredible boon for our organization.”

“My kaizen-driven vision for Opera180 will ignite fresh perspective and innovation into the creation of a new chapter in local opera,” says Birger.

Birger holds two Bachelor degrees in music education from Wichita State
University, majoring in violin and voice, along with her master’s degree in music education from Florida State University, and a Doctorate of Arts in Music from the University of Mississippi.

In the KC metro area, Dr. Birger has worked with such companies as MTH Theater, Lawrence Opera Theater, American Opera Studio, Sacred Arts Ensemble, Yachad, and KC VITAs: A New Music Ensemble. Birger is also a founding member and principal performer in the Kansas City-based operatic ensemble, Trio Forte.

As Artistic Director, Dr. Birger will work closely with Wheatley to continue cultivating and curating Opera180’s vision, including the upcoming performance of “Ein Prosit!” at KC Bier Co. The one-night-only event will surround some of opera’s most iconic drinking songs ranging from “La Traviata” and “Carmen” to “Die Fledermaus” and “Don Giovanni.”
