The White Theatre has announced the cast for CABARET, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
Directed by Tim Bair with musical direction by Marsha Canaday, and choreography by Kacy Christensen, the cast features Arthur Clifford (Emcee), Jennifer Renfrow (Sally Bowles), John Edmonds (Clifford Bradshaw), Ron Meyer (Ernst Ludwig), Pam Sollars (Fraulein Schneider),
Lindsay Day (Fraulein Kost), Ray Zarr ( Herr Schultz), John Ras (Max). The Kit Kat Girls and Boys include Emily Bricker, Pancha Brown, Haley Knudson, Lora Sorenson, Jerry Birts, Jack Jones, Zach Lofland, and Rob Reeder.
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical (1967) and Best Revival (1988 and 1998), CABARET follows an American writer – Cliff Bradshaw, and an English cabaret dancer – Sally Bowles as they try to navigate the unease of pre-WWII Berlin.
“It’s 1931, and Germany is in a downward spiral. And yet, inside the Kit Kat Klub, things are beautiful… or so it seems,” says Bair. “In the background – the Nazi party is on the rise. It was a dark time in history, but a story worth telling and worth remembering. It is also a poignant reminder for us all to pay attention.”
“One thing I’m really excited about – besides our amazing cast — is our unique staging of this show, literally immersing the audience into the atmosphere of the KitKat club,” comments Keith Wiedenkeller, Managing Director and Director of Arts and Culture at The J. “There’s a great juxtaposition between the decadence and frivolity of the club and what’s happening outside its walls.”
CABARET runs Feb 2 – 17 and is rated R for mature content. For more information visit TheWhiteTheatre.org.
