Unicorn Theatre in collaboration with Mesner Puppet Theater has announced the cast and design team for the world premiere of BOND by Logan Black.
A veteran of the Iraq war, Black is a Kansas City-based performer, playwright and fight choreographer, who in 2004 began an overseas tour with Diego, a yellow Labrador serving as a bomb-searching team.
Originally written as a short monologue, BOND was first performed at the 2015 Kansas City Fringe festival and featured both Black and Diego. Shortly afterwards the Unicorn approached Black about expanding the story into a full-length play, however, complications arose when Diego passed in 2017.
In order to keep Diego as an integral part of the production, Unicorn partnered with Kansas City-based Mesner Puppet Theatre to create a life-sized yellow lab puppet to portray Diego.
BOND is directed by Producing Artistic Director Cynthia
The production team includes Tanya Brown (stage manager), Kelli Harrod (scenic designer), Nicole Jaja (lighting designer), Emily Swenson (projections designer, with assistant Jerry Mañan), David Kiehl (sound designer), Ian R. Crawford (costume designer), Abigayle Huggins (props designer), and Hannah Taylor (dramaturg)
During the run of BOND Unicorn Theatre will partner with local organizations to engage and support lveterans coping with PTSD, including the Veterans Writing Workshop which Black will join and share how playwrighting helped him cope with PTSD.
BOND runs April 24 – May 19. For more information visit unicorntheatre.org.
