Starlight has announced the 2020 slate of shows to perform in Swope Park, it’s 70th year in operation.
The season kicks off in June with “Waitress,” the pie-shop musical based on the movie of the same name, with music from Sara Bareilles. Two jukebox musicals follow: “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical” and the Jimmy Buffet sounds of “Escape to Margaritaville.” The summer season continues with “The SpongeBob Musical,” “Sister Act,” and the Lincoln Center Theater production of “My Fair Lady.”
Season ticket holders can renew their six-show season now and add one or both weekend specials, Riverdance’s 25th-anniversary tour, or Blue Man Group’s “Speechless” tour. New season ticket holders may also purchase now, but won’t be assigned seats until the end of the renewal period. Individual tickets will go on sale at a later date.
Starlight also unveiled a new and branding for 2020. “Our new brand now consistently represents all aspects of our historic organization and paves the way to the exciting future of Starlight,” Rich Baker, Starlight President, and CEO, said. “In addition to presenting first-rate theatre and concert performances, Starlight provides education and outreach programs to more than 25,000 people each year, including some of Kansas City’s most vulnerable and underserved residents. With this new identity, we strive to encompass all that Starlight is as a thriving nonprofit organization.”
